Jumpstarting Hope in Gaza operates on the ground in Gaza through dedicated Palestinian-led teams working inside Gaza. Since early 2024, we have established and supported internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, delivering coordinated humanitarian and environmental interventions under crisis conditions. Our work focuses on providing access to clean water, building sanitation infrastructure, expanding energy accessibility, and supporting food security — integrating these services into off-grid systems designed to function reliably where central services have collapsed.

Deployment of Atmospheric Water Generators to produce clean, off-grid water for field hospitals in Gaza, alongside daily potable water trucking to displaced communities. Our WASH work also includes the construction of toilets (latrines), showers cesspits, and communal water access points within IDP camps to improve hygiene and reduce public health risks.
Establishment and management of internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, including Mesk & Layan, Samar, and Hamad. Our camps in the south of Gaza currently support approximately 5,200 people, with capacity expanding rapidly as conditions evolve. At the height of displacement, our operations supported up to 12,000 people, providing shelter, basic services, and coordinated camp management.
During periods of acute need, we delivered food packages to supported families and established community kitchens that have provided over 70,000 hot meals. Through partnerships, we continue to support food access within displacement camps, prioritizing families with limited cooking capacity and access to markets.
Green Shelters are integrated displacement sites designed to provide dignified, sustainable living conditions under prolonged crisis. Each site combines off-grid water, sanitation, energy, shelter, and community infrastructure into a single operational system, managed on the ground by local teams and adapted to changing humanitarian needs.

Shared Environments, Shared Futures is a joint report produced by the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies that examines the deep interconnection between humanitarian collapse, environmental degradation, and long-term recovery in Gaza. Grounded in on-the-ground experience and regional environmental research, the report outlines a phased recovery framework — absorptive, adaptive, and transformative — centered on decentralized, nature-based, and locally led solutions. It argues that sustainable recovery must address not only infrastructure and humanitarian needs, but also the environmental systems that sustain health, livelihoods, and resilience across borders.
